There was a time where men once went through a ritual or right of passage to become a man... sometimes i think political correctness has nuetered many boys on their way to becoming men. thoughts?

Your quote works for some old times. In today's world that way of reasoning is not only retarded but also terrible for your son, or yourself.
That time you describe also had situations where people could generally live with anyone because they were raised that way, to live in a community. They generally lived in multi-generational homes up until 100 years ago even in most developed countries. That required lots of adaptation and they needed to learn to live with others. Quite the opposite what you have today.
Second thing is that their parents would also raise children in a way that some general family traits were basis for most folks. And people who weren't adhering to those traits would not only result in taking very volatile life path, but their other siblings and parents would have to renounce them very often, in attempts to avoid getting the whole family branded into the same jar with their brother/sister/child.
Long story said short - that quote should not be taught to your child in America if you truly want to make their life happy, unless you really hate them.

totally agree. prior to political correctness men were men, and rode horses to work and won WWII and loved freedom and now we're all pansies and thanks to the tenets of PC only find self worth holed up in some chick's vagina
If a man wants a good woman, he needs to be the kind of man a good woman wants.
Could be by some logic, but not necessarily at all. This is why many men and women rather try to have their little "episodes" when they feel they need to let loose (and get away with it), to be part of both worlds. They don't want to miss out on anything "trendy", but they want to have the "old fashioned things" that are perceived as beneficial for their well-being. Regardless of being in direct conflict with the "trendy behavior".
To make it work, they need to be good liars and pretend to be something they're not. That's not really that hard because people genuinely think they deserve best, and there's always "that someone who's really evil".
So the truth is that people just need to trick some good woman to give them their time, then they'll coerce them into a relationship that they know they would never be with, and if they can't "accept them", then it's because there's something wrong with them - time for bashing of that said woman. Works in the opposite direction as well.

You are not politically correct.
Obviously, different people have different opinions of a "real man." To me, a real man knows how to drive stick. He knows how to handle a gun, his word is his bond, he knows the importance of a family. He doesn't look like a woman. He always stands up for the little guy, like a super hero.

you basically took things pretty much everyone agrees are good (loving relationship b/w father and son, healthy outdoor activities, finding self worth from one's one acts and values) and linked them to your little agenda (oh PC is sooooo bad) via a huge pretty picture and pithy quote
nothing "manly" about that. underhanded, if anything
when not abused political correctness pretty much boils down to treating everyone with respect and holding the notion of equality dear. certainly qualities you'd find in a good man. and a good woman too

Yeah, but i'm sure soon we will hear someone say "if he's got a penis and he is over 18, he is a man"....
