You only need one of two factors. You either arouse women with your looks or you make it worth their while by having the money.

I know for a fact I have done FAR better with women than many guys who are better looking, taller, and make way more money than me. The difference is that thought never crosses my mind. When approaching a group of women I never thought "what if I'm not tall enough" or "what if I don't make enough" hell I would never even offer to buy a girl a drink except for very rare cases.

Construction men are pretty buff. You probably already had a good body back then. Or you had the whole bad boy persona going for you. Women do notice me when I'm putting the byronic heroic attributes on, but alas they don't approach with sex on their minds.
I tell you what, after reading the garbage on this thread I certainly find 80% of the men here not only unattractive and undesirable, but downright repulsive. CD attracts some knuckle draggers that's for sure.

Yeah, but the both of you are the Wendy Darlings of the internet. In the real world women don't date men due to how good of a personality he has. Not until the woman can't compete with the younger women for the attention of the Alpha men, anyway. I did know one girl in college who had a very pleasant personality and would do anything for me, but even then, as a plain-looking girl she was dating the Alpha male. You just can't win, and if the only way for the average-looking men to get some **** is to be in a relationship/marriage, then the guy better stock up on some porn and lube 'cause I ain't getting married for what other dudes had for free, when it was young and hot.

My guy is perfectly average looking and not some underwear model and I adore him. Of course, he wasn't a pushy a-hole droning on and on about alpha males...so that's probably why. Oh, and we went dutch on our first few dates and tonight I'm treating him to dinner (I made reservations at one of his favorite restaurants and he doesn't know it yet) and a movie (which I already prepaid for). You're correct. Women date men based on all kinds of reasons. Protection. Validation. There aren't any other guy interested. She's been burned by good-looking men. She wants to marry and he seems like he's interested. He makes a lot of money. He's never dated that much before, he won't be hard to please.

Second, if women are attracted to bad boys with confidence - overwhelmingly preferred to smart boys who lack confidence and social grace - I don't see how good genes are being selected.
Intelligence e.g. IQ is largely inherited and thus a product of genes, confidence and social graces are products of environment and not so much inherited so I'm not getting the theory of selection for good genes,
First of all, raw intelligence is not necessarily a "good gene". In fact, it could be more of a liability than an asset seeing as incredibly intelligent offspring could have difficulties finding a mate or decide they'd rather not reproduce altogether for whatever reason. Also, intelligence itself is still not a well-defined quantity in science. It takes a very different skill-set to be a top theoretical physicist than it does say a world-class medical doctor. Also, your understanding of genetics seems to be very naive. Most of the greatest minds we have seen in the world (Newton, Gauss, Einstein, Maxwell, Hamilton, Euler, etc) were the product of parents with average intelligence, so it's not so simple as geniuses produce genius offspring and average people produce average offspring.
As long as one is within the average range when it comes to intelligence, it won't matter much at all when it comes to reproduction. Even then, there are many, many stupid but handsome guys who will spread their genes around while many ugly but incredibly intelligent men will end dying without ever reproducing. Nature tends to overwhelmingly prefer to select for good looks than intelligence.
But in general, I agree with your premise that confidence and personality are very, very inconsequential to a woman's decision when selecting a mate. Just replace intelligence with looks and your post would be spot on.
