If not just wear slacks or dress pants and a button down coller shirt. Some men just were a polo and jeans if its more dressed down.Wear colors that flatter you and colors that are calming greens and blues. Many wear navy blue or black.
You are so smart Raena!!

There's nothing sexier than a man in a well fitted suit. And don't let them smell good. My lord...

My kryptonite. I can´t even lie...

I used to literally attack my ex when he got home from work, wearing a suit and smelling good... maybe that's why he left me!

I would not recommend it unless the context demands it. What kind of first date are you going on? The vast majority of first dates I know of in CA involve coffee, because it places no serious time demands on either party and if one person doesn't like the other they can leave within half an hour. You do not want to show up to said coffee meeting wearing a suit unless you want to send them running into the great beyond.

Unless the restaurant requires a coat and tie, then don't wear a suit. Also, wearing one won't prove your maturity (as others have already stated). Besides, it is not as if you could/should wear one everywhere so even if it did prove something, it would only prove it this one time.
