I have a female Russian colleague at work and the other day she showed up with a bunch of flowers. Everyone said how romantic her boyfriend is (he's also Russian) but she said it wasn't him who had given her the flowers.
She had bought them to offer him the flowers. Everyone was surprised because you usually only offer flowers to women here. She said that in Russia it's perfectly acceptable to give flowers to a man, often accompanied by a good bottle of wine.
I gave flowers to a man once... live flowers though. He said he would kill them and kept his word, lol. He also said I was the only woman to ever give him flowers.
OK, it was a cultural thing.
In my world, men don't care about getting flowers whatsoever. Man is supposed to give flowers to a woman, because they are a total waste of money, thus making the gesture doubly symbolic. The woman does not need to give anything, and the man needs to work for the goodies.

I could never do that. My country´s culture is steeped in machismo.
