I think it's terribly sad how many schools don't focus on teaching people to think rationally about science, and about stuff they read on the internet.

Memorising facts and figures for the test is not what matters -- critical thinking is far more important. But it was kicked out of many schools by consevative boards. Because studies showed that learning to think for yourself makes people more politically liberal, IIRC.
I think that's what's one of the problems with Education system in general.

We don't teach kids how to problem solve and think critically. We teach them to memorize facts and stats for tests

But that wasn't always the case. That's mainly since the No Child Left Behind Act. Some of the people who are posting this nonsense now pretty much went through gradeschool and HS before that. Or maybe not. I wonder how old those posters are....

so can you produce legitimate scientific literature that states something other than these ideas you criticize?

Well you do come off as condescending.

Seriously, are only people with science degrees capable of understanding attraction and relationships? Why would you even bring up science in the first place?

i have a science degree (not a biological or behavioral science)

i generally agree with the statement: 'people are hard wired by nature to behave in certain ways.'

i also think you're choosing very extreme arguments, and in the absence of someone specific who actually said these things, it comes across as a strawman that misrepresents what the 'evo psych' people are arguing about in the first place.

That "hard-wired" line is always BS.

This.... The world's an indoctrination and marketing machine... If people are "hard wired" for anything, it is to adhere to the micro social norms.

We (that's both men and women) have instincts that are "hard-wired", but instincts are not the only thing we follow. We have conscious thoughts of our own, feelings of our own and social conditioning that play into attraction as well. Some swing completely towards the opposite of instincts.

Where is there the proof or evidence that high status men (and what is this definition?), with all other factors being equal (looks, charisma, dress, social situations and grace within them, lifestyle, etc.), are approached more than low status men?

As far as hard wiring goes, anyone with any scientific background (even high school level), would know that even with hard wiring (innate (?) biological) differences there is going to be a distribution (probably normal) of tendencies for any trait across a spectrum and there will be overlap between genders/sexes (physical and psychological traits at least), and trying to label individuals as being one way because of the wide distribution of their gender/sex is foolhardy, at best -> "Hey, you girl, it is only natural for YOU to be like that since you are a woman and your sex is hard wired that way!" wrong....
