The question being begged is how being "dateless" in high school influences one's perceptions later in life. For dateless men, are women some intransigent and untouchable enigma, because during the formative years of high school, they felt marginalized and unable to compete for dates?
What amazes me is the contradiction in American society. On the one hand, it's highly puritanical and religious. On the other, the general expectation is that most "normal" people do date in high school.
Um it really doesn't matter, it matters the type of person you are now.
I had 3 dates in high school. I went to the movies with one, for a soda with another, and to a dance with the third as part of a group of kids who were all going to an event together. None was anything special--no handholding or kissing, etc. It was just hanging out.

I think you can make a case that the type of person you'll become is still being determined in high school, and so experiences then can be pretty formative.
In my case not dating added to my sense that I was a freak. It wasn't the only thing contributing to that sense, but it did contribute. So my inability to meet my needs did further marginalize me, but it reflected back on me rather than on girls or later women.
I've been lucky in that I've never seen women as enigmatic or mysterious. Most women, like most men, are pretty transparent.
As an adult I can understand why my male peers weren't interested in a 6'1" chick, but back then I did my fair share of crying ...especially since I had a shorter sister who had no problems getting guys. My saving grace was that I was always complimented by adults (men & women), plus "older" guys showed an interest...that helped even out the name calling and/or lack of interest from my classmates.

I dunno. To me, tall+hot= extra hot.
