Well yeah, some of that giddy excitement does wear off, but what should be left should be something better. Ideally it should be turning to love, an enjoyable closeness, and comfort.

Yep. I've never gotten bored in a relationship, to be honest. But I don't get bored, in general.

Do relationships and the feelings they inspire shift and change and evolve over time? Sure (and that's not a bad thing). But no, I've never gotten bored. I guess I never expected long-term relationships to always feel like a first date with someone you're just getting to know, where every conversation brings up surprises. I think it goes without saying that that's an unrealistic expectation. Trading in giddy newness for deep, intense intimacy was never a bad thing, IMO.
