But what if some people have great difficulty finding romantic relationships on their own? That is exactly what a lot of people come onto forums like this to complain about. I am rather surprised that more of them haven't chimed in on this thread.
If health care should be a right for everyone, then why shouldn't love and marriage? It seems to me that this would be in the spirit of pursuit of happiness.
I agree.
I couldn't pick my looks, I couldn't pick my genes, ok if I can't pick my spouse as long as I can share my life with a mate (even if she's assigned by the govt).
Okay, before anyone thinks I'm being absurd for asking, this kind of thing does exist in certain parts of the world.
And even in the U.S., I have observed instances in companies where bosses hint or even encourage employees to get together for a potential date if they show some interest.
So, how open would you be to such an arrangement?
Why should government or employment assume to decide or dictate whom I marry or date?
But, we (U.S.) live in a system of oligarchy, and people pander to the upper elites of the corporate honchos like there's no tomorrow. It's so fraternalistic, I wouldn't be surprised (despite "so-called" "anti-harassment" policies like they're even enforced whatta crock).
Whoopie! Management abusing their power again. "Your a$$ better sleep with me, or else." Very special. Oh please.
maybe we can petition the president to allow coverage under obamacare. That's one way to boost participation numbers.

I'm surprised that 1) companies ever encourage office romances and 2) that probably nobody in this thread endorsed government assistance. I'd be wary of a government-run dating service, but I'd welcome laws that clean up online dating and government-funded programs that educate people about relationship red flags. I'd consider that indirect assistance, as it's theoretically easier to find a relationship once the minefields are cleared. It would be in the government's best interest to get involved, for society works better when most adults are satisfactorily coupled.
