I don't agree; I think happiness comes from mutual respect & not creating unrealistic expectations for your spouse. I find these statement insulting actually.

There is a difference between being unhappy with each other and just having a crappy time of it. If they are unhappy with each other, they are both miserable. If one is unhappy with work or other life issues, it's different.

I think the saying comes from a general unhappiness. There is a grain of truth to it.

Since many men don't have a social outlet and rely on their wives for their emotional needs, if the wife isn't happy they have nowhere to turn. A man with an unhappy wife will probably be pretty miserable too, because his emotional needs are not being met. He's. Not going to call his best friend and cry about his boss yelling at him. His best friend isn't going to hug him and reassure him. His best friend might buy him a beer. That's not enough.

Many woman with an unhappy husband will usually comfort him and try to make things better. She still has her friends and family for emotional outlets. So, she is worried but less miserable. She gets comfort from others too.

I agree! I adore my husband and I am happiest when he is happy and vice versa. I think it has to be mutual or what is the point?

It's simple men need football, food, and bjs to be happy.

Women are a much harder nut to crack.

While I knew I was not actually responsible for my wife's happiness, I made it my quest to do the best I could to make her happy because I loved her so much. She, in turn, did the same for me and for the same reason. I guess one could have said of us that love was our happiness. It was not a chore. It was a pleasure.
