I agree with this... but typically dark skin like (India Arie) black women with typical african american features aren't usually in magazines to begin with. you have a small amount of women with that description in magazines except they don't have the typical features of a black person. for example, jessica white got a nose job... black women aren't considered the type that can fit the standard of beauty to begin with.
Ridiculous. Stop internalizing the contrived messages that magazines and media try to push. The majority of the time, it has no relation to what a real person considers attractive.

That's patently false. Please stop trivializing the OP's very real concerns with condescending nonsense like this.
The fact remains that most people's perceptions of what makes someone attractive are significantly influenced by the images they're bombarded with via media, television and the movies. It's not for nothing that activists have for a very long time been pushing for magazines to have more realistic images of women.
Now on the other hand if you're suggesting that the OP shouldn't let her confidence and self-esteem be adversely affected by the same, that I can get on board with...

That "fact," as you call it, doesn't account for things that all kinds of people are attracted to, that the media doesn't shove in the public's faces. Sexuality in media is a trashy, "fast-food" caricature of real life.

So, you're suggesting that the OP should "Stop internalizing the contrived messages that magazines and media try to push."
Well what I find sad is that the OP is so busy pushing away men that she might miss the good ones. Some men that try to talk to you are sincere and you won't know till you talk to them. There have got to be some other decent people in the ghetto--you're there aren't you?
If they start making awkward suggestions then you can blow them off and if you really are unattractive think what a blow to their esteem that will be. I mean, you can have fun with this.
It does not matter what another soul thinks of your looks. In the scheme of things those people are unimportant. These people will not be in you life five years from now.
You think you are ugly? I cannot imagine you feel that way all of the time.
