Hey all...has anyone ever made a marriage pact with an old gf/bf? If neither one of you are married by a specified age then you'll get together. If so, did it work out?

A gay friend once offered to be a sperm donor if we reached a certain age and the two of us still didn't have any kids.

We moved to different cities and lost touch. I haven't taken him up on the offer, and I don't actually intend to. But that's as close to the "pact" that I've ever been.

Well sort of...

In 1978 after seeing the movie "Same Time Next Year" with my boyfriend (who cried as much as I did in the movie!) we agreed we'd meet 20 years from that day at a spot we both liked on our college campus if we were each free and available.

Turned out there was no need for the meeting, as we eventually married later down the line

I just had an old girlfriend get in touch the other day. We talked for a bit and got on the topic of relationships. My current one is heading downhill fast right now and she just started one up a few weeks ago, but she is moving out of the country for 5-6 months for work. She said if our relationships fail we'll just marry each other. Seriously. I have 4 years to find someone before she comes calling maybe LOL!!

I thought that was funny.

When I was 44, I made a pact with an exgf that we'd get married if we were both still single by the time I hit 50. She was single and I was just out of a relationship and we agreed that growing old alone was not something either of us was looking forward too.

She was married within 6 months of the pact

The first time I ran into her mother months after the wedding(@ City Hall), we couldn't stop laughing. The first thing she said was, "She wants you to know that she didn't get married to avoid marrying you." Uh, huh. It was hard to believe since her declaration was accompanied by bouts of laughter.

Ex is still married... happily, I hope.

Sounds like a bad Julia Roberts movie.

I can honestly say that marriage was never important enough to me to make a pact with someone about it.
I never revolved my life around being in a relationship and never thought about being alone in old age.
Whatever happened happened and I was and still am fine with it all. I've pretty much winged it my entire life dealing with the current situation as it happened.

I have seen it...on tv, lol but never agree to, or done it.

And I am not sure how it'd work out, getting with one another as a safety net, which I wonder if people thought that'd make them feel unloved, and settled for.

But it can work for some, if they're very good friends, and already have a platonic love for one another. So, it's married FWB

But I just wonder is it really still the same as being naturally married?....
