Ok. I can understand how people in relationships have difficulty resolving conflict (sign #2), but how can a man marry a woman and then not want to give her quality time or attention (signs #1 and 3)?? What's the point of getting married, then?

Can't say as that's in dispute. Yea...these guys are real winners. Bet the farm on them. When I grow up...I wanna be jus' like those guys. Hell, its a lotta hard work and might even hurt a little being a real man. Just flop on the couch while the baby's crying and the little woman is cooking supper. What!? She thinks I'm gonna take care of the kid for her? Men don't do that *#$&. Sides, need a showed before ya hit the bar

Can't hardly fathom why those women would cheat. Lol. Thus, I'm kinda confused as to how this discussion should go. Are we Hindi acting these women? Frowning on the behavior of these men? Both? Either way is pretty easy to do. Thing is its not just women like this who cheat. Or men in similar situations. People in perfectly happy relationships who do love their partners have still been known to cheat. Both genders.

That's pretty simple to figure mostly. Plain old lust probably drives most of that. Opportunity and a brain fart has killed a lot of relationships.

Can't believe the summation of why these women cheat are basically they're attention hos. LOL. And again, me, me, me. Yap the root of all cheating and divorce - selfishness.

Oh I see.

Well, I have been in both monogamous and non-monogamous relationships. But I don't have any problem being monogamous. In fact, I've never cheated on anyone. Sorry if I misled anyone...

Unfortunately most people WONT leave until they have other options available. It's something I see happen in the majority of failed relationships.

An excellent question. While I don't necessarily subscribe to the reasons enumerated below, as some of them are stupid or even odious, these reasons are (or were) fairly common, and in some cases can't be dismissed without rigorous analysis.

1. Marriage is a traditional rite of passage for men as well as women. An unmarried man is to some extent still a "boy". People get married just to prove to their kin, acquaintance and society that they're finally adults.

2. Marriage relieves the pressure of dating.

3. A wife is (or was) a ready and permanent sexual resource. Note that it's fairly recent that the definition of rape has been expanded to include forced sex between husband and wife.

4. A wife is (or was) a captive and unpaid housekeeper. The single man must tend to his house alone, whereas the married man is free to carouse with his chums, confident that he'll be returning to a tidy house and a cooked meal.

5. Marriage is (or was) the only means of legitimizing children as proper heirs. A man could not confer is land, property, titles and status upon his illegitimate son. It was necessary to acquire a wife, even if her sole purpose was to serve as breeding-machine. Without marriage, the family lineage would die out.

6. Marriage is necessary for advancement in one's career. This was especially true for military officers and politicians.

7. In some cases, marriage confers a very substantial tax-deduction.

8. Marriage is a political and financial alliance. Feelings of attraction, compatibility or love are purely incidental, and to some extent even undesirable.

That's true. Which reminds me... when I was a kid I thought grown ups were all honest, sincere, serious about life and family, and always did the right thing. Not that my parents drilled that into me, to the contrary! But somehow I just automatically thought that since they (adults) had been around earth longer, they were smarter and wouldn't do stupid and evil things. I thought (as a kid) that they had straightened out somehow. BOY WAS I WRONG! It gets so much worse, doesn't it? Adults do so many messed up things, I'd say easily they spend half their time doing wrong or messed up things.

Exactly. Free sex, free maid, free seamstress, free everything, indentured servant (how about those wives who did added to the family income by sewing, cooking, and knitting for others outside the family and made an income), and all for the price of a few meals and maybe a little fabric to make a dress now and then.
