Yeah, those outfits. I can't believe I was ok with some of those 80's outfits back in the day. The horror. But then some people might say the same about some of my present clothing choices.
We were talking about Van Halen a few days ago... but man... nothing satisfies like a big ol set of early VH.... long back before Eddie became friendly with keyboards...
Back the way rock was meant to be played.... keyboard less.....
We go to this Black Sabbath concert. Back then there were no assigned seats at a concert, it was so called festival seating which meant lots of people in a very long line drinking and smoking dope. Except for me and someone who would become my wife. We were drinking Shirley Temple's and handing out pamphlets on the horrors of marijuana. At any rate I ask one of the other people in line who was handing me a joint that I in no way took a toke off of if he knew who the warm up band was. He says somebody called Halen or something or other. A couple other people chime in one saying that their first album was coming out soon and that our minds would be blown.
We eventually arrive to where we decide to sit and break out the flask of Shirley Temples we brought in with us and soon after they began playing. The man had not lied, we were suitably blown away. Everyone was. The break came and after a time Sabbath began. They opened with Iron Man and it sounded so slow, so old. People began chanting for Van Halen, boos, etc. I'd say Ozzy made it about an hour before he cursed out Seattle ending by saying he would never come back and stormed off the stage. It was 20 years later when he finally did as a solo act. As for Halen, I didn't like the later stuff so much but the first couple albums were a breath of fresh air.
I play the piano and keyboards, since before I was tall enough to reach the pedals with my feet. Not kidding.
I've only been to one concert in my life. It was Phil Collins. I won the tickets from work and took my husband (then boyfriend) to celebrate his birthday.
I think I was 18 or 19 at the time, so I didn't drink. I may have smoked at the time (cigarettes), but never did it in front of him.
The concert was at Jones Beach. I have no idea who opened for them. I guess the whole event wasn't all that memorable...lol
