I am a hopelessly confused 50 year old gay man. I met a really fascinating man in 1990. We dated briefly long distance, but I was young, more attractive and felt that I could do better. Shortly after, he moved to calif from Texas and became romantically involved with someone for over 6 years. He moved back to Austin, bit I was in calif by then. Then, he moved to Spain for another 6 years. So, I've never really seen him very much. He moved back to Austin a few months ago. Because of housing costs, I am also toying with the idea of coming home to Texas. I've always felt deeply for him. He's not a spring chicken anymore (and neither am I). He's never appeared to want to settle down with someone else. He just recently purchased his first home. I've thought that if we went through a courtship period that we could be a couple. Now, I have doubts. We did sleep together a week ago, but did not do so the following week. He may be setting the boundaries, but now I'm thinking that it's just easier to avoid him altogether. But doing so would only rid me of a dear true blue friend. I'm barely answering his texts for now, but don't want to do it for too long. I def want to keep him as a friend, platonic or not, but it's hard for me when I'm with him (for me anyway).
I wonder... maybe the unrequited aspect of this relationship fills some need for you. Maybe if it were a real romantic relationship you would lose something. What do you think?
(BTW, there are some good and thoughtful people here, but mostly it's a forum for young straight men who hate women and have never had a relationship, so you may get some odd responses. Me, I am glad to see you here - a real person writing about real experiences.)
