What is the act meaning of "stay just friends FOR NOW"...
Is the person not sure about the feelings and wants to keep options open?
Is it just a soft way of dumping someone?
Thank you!

I take it as a soft way of dumping someone. Definately that person is not interested.

I'm pretty sure they know their feelings, impossible to say that you completely unsure of your ownself feelings. I take as being nice, instead of say 'we cannot develope romantic love", they say 'let just be friends for now'

I don't know about others, but that is how I see it.

I would think it's a way to say I like you...but maybe I have something else that might work out...

Or maybe they have their own stuff to work out and can't deal with a relationship.

It can have so many meanings. Really you are better off asking the person who said it in the first place.

"Friends for NOW" for me means, "I'm guarded so you better watch your step." Nah, I'm kidding. Not the guarded part though because some ladies do like taking the time to know a guy first before letting their hormones get the best of them. Boring, I know. But, some people require a bit of.. trust and safeness first.

And, if I'm seriously not into the guy, I don't keep him around as a friend or even want to mention friends. If we break up and don't work out, that's another story.. friends post relationship is another way of validating that other person and letting them know they still matter.

you're screwed, bro. It's either that she's not interested or have commitment problems; none of the scenarios works out in your favor.

I've gotten the "stay friends for now" comment before. After which, she pretty much faded out. It's just a way of dumping someone. It's better to just cut your loses and move on.

Not necessarily, but I could see how most feel the same..

I love how synchronicity works when people happen to meet each other at the right time in the right place.. on a clean slate without emotional baggage whatsoever.. in a perfect and ideal world.

Friends first is always a touchy subject. Some people warm up slower than others. Other times, both are on the same page and all is candy.

It's along the lines of "I need a break"
AKA: I'm not sure what I want but stay close so I have a fallback
