As the title describes, I'm a 25 year old single dude living in a suburb, a very nice and very big suburb (about 120K population near Chicago) but a suburb nonethless. I am having a difficult time meeting women around my age for dating purposes
Would I have significantly better luck moving to Chicago itself?
Yes. I live in a suburb to the city and it's full of married folks with families. Nice to live but horrible for a single person to meet someone. Live in the city please if you can.
Unless you want to hit on housewives, then yes, you should probably relocate to a target-rich environment.

my problem is I have lots of friends and family around here plus a great job that I'm very happy with. Moving from here is so difficult
live where you want to live, and travel to find dates. surely there are singles clubs near where you live, perhaps within 20 miles? also if you belong to a church, check there for any events they may have for singles. check the local classifieds personals section, they often have singles events in your area posted up. stop thinking inside the box all the time. here is another possible place to meet single women, the local hospital cafeteria. it is open to the public, and there are lots of nurses that go there daily, and the food is actually pretty good. dont limit yourself to certain hunting grounds man, get out there and think outside the box for where to look for women.
at 25, another place for you to look for women is the local junior college. most women there will be between 18-25 years of age, and mostly single. so take a couple of classes in subjects that tend to attract women.
There is probably at least one or two female equivalents of you kicking around your suburb or the next one over.
yep, get a small to medium sized dog with an even temper, and walk it every evening. head to the local park and hang out. women LOVE dogs for the most part. you dont want a german shephard, something more like miniature pincher, or something like this lhasa apso;
