thanks to all the people that have responded so far. I was looking for more "poll" type results where people say their practice:

A) I need to have first + last name so I can google them before I would ever meet IRL

B) I disclose it organically in conversation when it comes up

C) I've had stalkers/I'm paranoid/I meet *too many people* from OLD so I hold back until like the 3rd date or later

D) I'm wanted in 7 states and mexico so I dont ask/dont tell. My objective is Wham Bam Thank You Ma'am/Sam and onto the next victim/conquest.

The men I dated in a serious capacity, I knew their last name from, gosh, pretty much the very beginning.

I would tell the girl my last name whenever she wanted it. People are too self conscious and paranoid now and days.

I'd want to have all the info on someone before going out with them, especially if it was a stranger from OLD or something who had no connections to anyone I knew.

My daughter gets all her OLD names and looks them up and sometimes tells me who they are before she meets them. Safety first. And Googling isn't really doing a background check, it's just silly to not look at all the info available to you. Most people will say they "online stalked" someone before meeting them, it's how life is now and it's not really stalking when you put your life online like so many do.

Uh. I wouldn't go out with someone without knowing their last name.

I think for the most part, you can trust that people are who they say they are. However there's always that 5% or so you have to worry about...

I wouldn't go full-blown background check but I do search at the circuit court records in our state, and Google, natch.

I agree with you. I don't see it as stalking, just doing your homework.
