After the hardware is removed surgery is done, then it is a matter of going through the worst part of the physical therapy to regain complete range of motion with his arm/elbow or as close to it as possible.
The hardware has his arm set at a 45 degree angle and he cannot bend it up or down nor turn his wrist/palm from facing up to facing the floor. The way the break of both bones and the shattering of his elbow is, one bone does not turn over the other bone because his forearm was not attached to his bicep after the injury happened until surgery was completed.
I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand. I'm not sure if you mean it will be reattached during this next surgery(ies) or if it's a permanent condition.
I'm sorry, it is very confusing when trying to write it all out the bones are attached now with the pins and hardware but the hardware is like this ____/ and it keeps him arm like this ____/ so the surgery is to take the hardware out and allow his bones to continue to heal without the added support of ____/ keeping his arm at a 45 degree angle.
He will have a cast for a few weeks, then a hard splint that can be removed for a few months during physical therapy.
That hardware has kept his bones in place so his forearm is attached to his bicep again, I should upload his xrays so you can sort of see what I mean in pictures.
Speaking of ouch, Sunday evening after we got home from our trip it was a bit late and we went to bed and Walter decided he needed to join us so he did and immediately flopped himself upside down right against Mr. CSD's arm and scootched around a bit so he could get comfortable and get a belly rub.
Mr. CSD dang near jumped through the ceiling it hurt so much.
