"Why do I always meet up with weirdos in online dating???"

That's like me saying, "I don't need to take the bus! Sure, having a bus is nice and all but I don't need it!!!"

and then in another thread I start complaining "Why is the bus always late!!!!!"
Isn't it some of the men here who do that? I haven't seen the women doing that.

I don't NEED a home but it's NICE to have one!

"argghhh! I have to replace my roof again!"

"arggg my homeowner fees just went up!!!"

I don't NEED friends but it's NICE to have one!

"My friend just ditched me the other day!!!"

"My friend won't go out so I am at home tonight alone!"

Need- something you have to have
Want -something you would like to have

It's that simple. What is a need or a want depends on the person. Some people might need a car... if it's the only way they can get around. Someone who lives in an urban area might want one, but not need it since they have other ways of getting around. Etc.

I don't have to have a man in my life, my life is fine without one. I am happy and things are good. But I would like a man in my life.

And your examples are not analogous. In the case of me looking for a man the analogy isn't that I have a car or house that I am complaining about, it's that I am shopping for one and haven't found one I like yet (although in the case of a man, he also has to like me).

They don't call it "Maslow's Hierarchy of Wants".

The car doesn't fall under any part of it, though. Depending on the city, you can be fine without or life is really rough without.

Are relationships a WANT or a NEED?

That depends on who you are asking and when you're asking them.

Why do you keep asking such obvious questions?

Clothes are a NEED? I'm sure you don't NEED it..u won't die without it.
Clothes are a need in the society we live in. You can't go to work without clothes, and without a job, you can't pay your living expenses.

This is a good question for its own thread. It's off-topic here.

Exactly. It seems like the people here have redefined Maslow's Hierarchy.

So you agree with me that if someone (man or woman) were to do that, it would be quite ironic right?

My questions is why does use of the English language gives so many people problems here?

True, it is a difficult second language as there are many idiosyncrasies, but if you're a native tongue speaker of the language then the different uses of "need" isn't difficult to fathom at all. I need to eat to live vs. I need a new turntable isn't difficult for 99.99% of native speakers to grasp.

No, that would not be "ironic" since there was no irony.

If your concern is about one member, why are you generalizing to everyone? Take it to DM's with that person. Or start your own thread.
