If you want him around as a friend, that's great.

From every person I've met, involving yourself prior to ending your job together could mess it all up...If it is not meant to be, later at least you won't have all that awkwardness that comes from having to interact at work.

But, from your description It sounds to me like a good start to a good relationship, continue to build it It will be worth the wait.....I wish you the best.

I think his kindergarten friend will tell you all you need to know. I'm sure he would say things about you like, 'you have to meet this great gal! She's awesome, I'm falling for her etc.'
