I think you need to decide whether the positives are enough to outweigh the negatives. Some of the negatives seem to me could find ways to compromise. I've been in relationships where there were similar differences (political, movie and music taste, etc.) but we still made it work. One think you definitely need to do is get away from the ex. The reason why there's a bit of a rush is that his roommate has decided to move in with his boyfriend (whom he met online four weeks ago and has only met in person twice) on 01 December. Tom (my boyfriend) couldn't afford to live in the house by himself.

The solution that we came to last night is that my boyfriend, rather than finding a place to rent, will buy a house , and then I'll move in whenever I feel comfortable--probably later next year.
