I could have been more popular in high school ..... social skills are paramount and fashion skills are too.... so is middle ground .......

The cool kids weren't "way out there" nor did they "try too hard"

Being an ethnic or racial minority or gay makes it worse for you contingent on where you go to school ......... you have to consider that it is like a "caste system"

The athletes were the most popular usually....

There are many hugely successful people who struggled socially in high school. People like Albert Einstein and Bill Gates, just to name a few. I would rather be in their pool.

Good looks, good at music or good in sports. Unfortunately in High school personality is a distant 4th.

Personality doesn't count in college or work either. How do I know? I've been to several top universities and the people are atrocious.

The work field is a bit better though....

How about the "Home Coming King," what does he do to be so popular with everyone? How can someone have just tons of friends in school while others with great personalities are outsiders? What is the secret to High School popularity?
I remember that kids who were popular in high school really struggled socially in college. High school is all phony anyway. Why worry about it? Instead of trying to twist oneself into a pretzel in order to become popular, how about you tell your nephew to embrace who he is, be open and honest, and concentrate on his academics. The quality of his post-high school career, the kind of college he gets into -- those are much more accurate predictors of his future social success than being the "Home Coming King".
