I could have been more popular in high school ..... social skills are paramount and fashion skills are too.... so is middle ground .......
The cool kids weren't "way out there" nor did they "try too hard"
Being an ethnic or racial minority or gay makes it worse for you contingent on where you go to school ......... you have to consider that it is like a "caste system"
There are many hugely successful people who struggled socially in high school. People like Albert Einstein and Bill Gates, just to name a few. I would rather be in their pool.
I don't even remember high school. Who the hell does? Someone was asking me about h.s for some unknown reason I couldn't even remember the name and she wanted to know some other stuff about it. I was like seriously?

My nephew is really struggling socially in his first year of High School. He came into the school not knowing anyone and is constantly shocked at the strange interpersonal rules and culture in a typical American suburban High School. He wonders how does someone become REAL popular in High School.
He is not looking to be one of the guys or just having a few good friends or any of those things. He wants to know what people do to become the most popular kid in school. How about the "Home Coming King," what does he do to be so popular with everyone? How can someone have just tons of friends in school while others with great personalities are outsiders? What is the secret to High School popularity?
I remember that kids who were popular in high school really struggled socially in college. High school is all phony anyway. Why worry about it? Instead of trying to twist oneself into a pretzel in order to become popular, how about you tell your nephew to embrace who he is, be open and honest, and concentrate on his academics. The quality of his post-high school career, the kind of college he gets into -- those are much more accurate predictors of his future social success than being the "Home Coming King".
