I am a young 22 year old woman who loves and respects men an extreme great deal. During my 2 year relationship that ended (he became abusive so I left him) I noticed that he would flirt with other women alot and stare at them for a super long time. This hurt me, and is also why I left him. His promiscuity got me thinking about polygamy and monogamy. After leaving I have been very confused on the subject of which is natural: polygamy or monogamy. But naturally as I always manage to bring myself to enlightenment when I think really deeply about things, is that both monogamy AND polygamy are needed for a healthy functional human society. I dont think society would work if it was exclusively monogamous or exclusively polygamous. Polygamy is needed and only for the best man with the best genes, who's healthy alpha male, to spread his genes to as many beautiful women as possible. Women instinctively know that the best man deserves to spread his genes around, as we can see this with the groupie's worship of rock stars or other male celebrities. However men are monogamous too, because they fall in love with one woman and many do choose to commit to one on their own, so in the case of monogamy only the best man should marry the best woman, while spreading his genes to other women. I am still a bit confused on this as you can see, so I would love insight from other people, especially men, because some women will be offended by this subject of polygamous men, but I have come to accept that men are by nature polygamous. I am accepting of men's polygamous nature and as a woman I am naturally accepting of men's polygamous nature because I instinctively realize and have no problem with a man spreading his genes. I see it as unnatural to deny a man's polygamous nature while only accepting his monogamous side)I would like some insight from other people on how a society that is both monogamous and polygamous would work out. We are still all monogamous because humans are emotional creatures that create special bonds, but at the same time the best humans need to spread their genes around as much as possible.
To the admins: If there are duplicates of this thread, I apologize. But I have terrible internet and when I try to post the first time I would come to error screens and have to keep going back to click "post thread" button. Sorry.
Why isn't anyone responding to my thread? Do you not understand what I am saying? Sorry but I am not too good with words. I think I am autistic.
You do realize that the idea of people, man or woman, having sex for the sole purpose of procreation is a myth, right? Mankind has actually put much effort into creating ways to prevent procreation (personally I have gone to great lengths to make sure no "seed" is being spread). Thus it matters not who has the best "genes" or who is most physically appealing when it comes to the human sex drive.
Monogamy and polygamy and polyandry blah, blah, blah, already coexists in many forms. We are fortunate that we live in a more enlightened society were the majority don't give two chits who is doing who as long as long as it is consensual and the parties involved are of the age of consent.
what women don't understand is that men cheat (engage in semi "polygamy" ) it is not becuase
they don't care for or they are not in love with their existing mate.
It is just that their hormones got the best of them in that period of time.
very similar to how women's hormone's get in the way during their monthly cycle.
for a long in society there was pressure on women to stay in miserable marriages.
now women face another peer pressure in the form why don't you dump that guy because he looked at some other hot woman.
do what's good for your mental health. screw what other think. life is too complicated as it is.
Completely aside from the issue of monogamy/polygamy, what is the relevance of whether or not they are natural?
Human beings engage in all manner of things that are unnatural. We also decline to do a wide variety of things that are natural.
Cutting ones hair? Wearing shoes? Blood tranfusions? Air travel? All rather unnatural, no? Yet most of us do them without concern for the fact that they are.
Taking food by force from others? Living only in climates that our unclothed bodies can tolerate? Eating only undomesticated, unprocessed foods? All natural behaviors of that peculiar animal Homo sapiens, yet few of us would endorse such behaviors simply on the basis that they are natural.
So, I would not concern myself with what is natural or unnatural - and let's be honest, even defining what is which can be problematic - when decided on proper courses of action.
What this whole thread is assuming is that men cannot control themselves and have a natural instinct to be polygamous. This is just not the case because you are not giving men the benefit of the doubt that they are INTELLIGENT HUMANS with brains that are capable of overcoming "instinct." Sure, attraction is attraction, but when it becomes action, it is pathetic to excuse that by saying they can't control themselves.
Also, a guy is not 'promiscuous' when he is just looking at other women, so I have no idea where that idea came from.

What a convenient excuse for male cheaters. Guess we should just accept that men give in to their base emotions because they are...stupid?? No, I will never believe that. In your world, why do women cheat then? Because they are evil?
