Here's the way it works in our marriage. I make all the big decisions and she makes all the small ones. Somehow in 23 years, I've never had to make a decision at all.
How can one control and manipulate with kindness? Controlling and manipulating your partner shows insecurity and is cruel in any setting. I don't care to be the boss of anyone, especially not my boyfriend, whose opinions and honesty are things I respect.
In our relationship I am the go to guy, and I have the final say with all big decisions. However, when it comes to lots of things, I defer to her because she knows more about certain things than I do. But when it comes to buying big things like houses, vehicles, where and when we move, I'm the one that makes the final decision and my wife gladly defers to me, simply because I usually know more about the issue at hand.
But when I make those decisions, I actually keep in mind the needs of both my wife and handicapped son.
I will add however, that in most cases, women today are the boss in the house. I see that in lots of marriages, including one of son's.
We are in a partnership, and we each play to our own strengths. We confer and come to a consensus on stuff for the most part.
I am more dominant in regards to education and household stuff. He is more dominant in areas of finance, fixing stuff, and researching things.
I also am in charge of vacations, food and social stuff for the most part.
We generally are on the same page about stuff, and take each other's feeling into account.
