I think one of the most ridiculous dating phenomena I've encountered is the tendency for people to insult someone because he/she wouldn't date them.

For example, last summer I told an old guy who was harassing me that I didn't want anything to do with him. He then started sending me messages telling me I was fat, a loser, etc. So then why did he want me in the first place?

I've seen both genders do this, too. I don't know whether to laugh or feel pity for these folks.

You should pity them.

For someone to act that way says volumes about their character.

People do this for just about everything they do not have or get turned away from
It's not limited to relationships.

It's a way for them to attempt to rationalize moving on.

just let them throw a fit and convince themselves they are doing the right thing and don't take things too peronsally.

Many people can be, and are, infantile when it comes to rejection.

I never take it personal.

They're trying to save face, but it actually has the opposite effect.

Criticism is often auto-biographical. Mean-spirited people tend to despise in others the very thing they hate most about themselves.

When someone starts talking ugly to me, I often ponder that truism, and it's pretty enlightening and freeing!

Lol. I would just move on. However I would thank you for not leading me on and wasting my time if you were not interested.

To some people it's the way they justify your rejection by making it seem like your fault. Look at it this way. If there was even the slightest chance you would change your mind they just blew it. This way by demeaning you you're the bad person not them. Not logical but lots of people aren't logical. Same reason there are three sides to every story

An eye for an eye, because you rejected me and hurt my all-so fragile feelings. Lol

That's really immature and petty.

Just a defense mechanism to make themselves feel better.
