Has anyone watched this show on A&E? I watched it via Hulu but some content is also available via the A&E site. It's about couples meeting for the first time at the altar but experts have paired them up using "sophisticated" methods. It was quite intriguing.

Married at First Sight - Episodes, Video & Schedule - A&E

The strange thing is that these couples could choose after 6 weeks if they want to stay married or get divorced so what kind of commitment is that and how is it different from dating?

Do you think something like this makes a mockery of the institution?

Why should it, arranged marriage is extremely common over most of the world? I personally know a young couple who met on their WEDDING DAY.

Considering the marrige really doesn't matter to their situation when all things are put in context

The show pays for the marriages
It pays to have them annulled

The only thing required from the people participating is they give it 6 weeks of trying to make thigs work with one another.

The show is really just a group of quacks conducting a study on how calling something something else affects people's perception.

For Westerners, you love first before you marry - for most Easterners, the philosophy is that you marry first and develop an intimate relationship. You begin to understand each other and you grow.
Nowadays ~50% of all American marriages end in divorce. Therefore considering anarranged marriage maybe is not such a bad thing.
Maybe arranged marriages produce better relationships in the long run than do typical
American marriages, in which people find each other on their own and romance is the foundation.

We had an interesting thread about it:
