If you want to keep your work professional, you should not worry if some guy likes you or not. Just try to avoid him, do not get into conversation, do not sit with him at lunch etc. and he will get the message. Some guys need a VERY CLEAR message.
What awful behavior do you feel you have to make up for? I see no awful behavior. You were only being appropriately real.
Thanks! My friend is the one who told me I should "apologize" because I was awful to him. No way. She must think acting like a doormat is better. I really don't see why I should apologize. She's been trying to lure me into apologizing (and when I do, he's going to think he's so great ... like he won).

Some people aren't comfortable with confrontational behavior, no matter how appropriate. Your friend is one of those people. People like that often don't understand the need to set boundaries.

Yeah, it's the same friend who tells her supervisor he needs to "behave". She's always bickering with the supervisor and thinks it's a joke because he's very non-confrontational and he tends to act sarcastic instead of telling her things in a straight-forward manner.

Weird office/company you work for. Sarcasm is a form of passive-aggressive behavior. He's not much of a supervisor, if he can't be straight-forward. Oh well.

He's new and it's his first job after his PhD, so he doesn't know how to handle her.
The Senior supervisors don't even deal with her because they know she's a headache.
