You do realize that it both men and women chiming in that a lot of older men like women their age. No one is denying that some older men like younger woman and we all know why. But there are indeed 40-year-old men dating 40-year-old women because that's who they are interested in and these are the men the OP needs to target (the men going after women half their age are irrelevant to her). Why is that so hard to understand?
I agree that most people at 40 don't hold a candle to their 22-year-old self. But in the same light, not every 20-year-old out there is some kind of hot, sexy, tight model and every 40-year-old a saggy, fat, hag. I've seen some women in their 20s who don't hold a candle to some women in their 40s. You can find beautiful (and not so beautiful) women at any age. And you know what... a woman who is beautiful at 22... unless she really let herself go, is still rocking it at 40 or even 60 (have you SEEN 60-year-old Christie Brinkley? You telling me that she's not hot? and that somehow an overweight pimply 20-year-old college drop out working at McD's is sexier because she's younger?)
As for the OP, I agree that getting in shape should be a priority and it's something most of us can control. Losing weight and just being healthy makes anyone look a lot better and since yes, men are interested in looks, it can only help.

I'm 39... I've always liked women who are within 4 years of me.. But, if I'm being honest, middle aged women are the least challenging to get and to approach.
Younger women are better looking. Simples as that.
failings?? Failings?? How is merely being a certain age a "failing"? Failing implies you have done some things that you can control that has lessened your chances in the dating pool. Such as letting yourself go in terms of weight, cleanliness, being too lazy to work, poor attitude, etc.
You cant control your age. As has been mentioned, there are lots of good looking women with good bodies and personalities that rival those of younger women. So..how are they failing? Don't blame a mans screwed up actions on the women.
However, men will be the first to cry about gold digging women, or women who only want a sugar daddy.
Men have their stupid reasons for wanting younger women, but why do you think a 25 yr old woman who can get a hot 25 year old man would want a 46 year old dude whose starting to lose his hair?
Ah, no. There are more single women than men. Women have a harder time than men do getting married as they get older. And I never said that most 20's don't date other 20's. What I'm saying is that a lot of older men like/desire younger women. And the ones who can get one, usually do.

You do realize they are including widows as "single." Women tend to outlive men so it makes sense there are more single women (since there are more women in general).
When you cap singles at 64, the number is pretty even (50/50 ratio of singles). I agree there aren't more single men at 40 than single women, but the converse isn't true either.
