And yet, that's the reality. At least for dating in my age group. Giving a girl my age a flower on the first date would be more of a faux pax than asking if she was down to have sex on the first date. Seriously.

Mine too; at least in America.

Definitely not. Women dislike romance for the most part.

I think the whole idea that women do comes from men's interpretation of their behaviors (that comes from a time when women needed to fake things in order to please men....or else they wouldn't be able to eat).

I received an arrangement of roses on a first date. He brought them to the restaurant. I was mortified. (So that's a nay from me).

I've had flowers delivered to our table on a first date too. I was delighted, why wouldn't I be? They were so big that we couldn't see each other across the table so the waitor kept them for me until we left. It never occured to me to be mortified. I just figured that I had a hopeless romantic man on my hands. And I thought to myself "Oh goodie!"

Sometimes I give my young lady a flowering plant which can be hung from the deck porch, or planted in the ground.....

My online profile says I like dark chocolate. Twice I have met guys who showed up with a small package of gourmet-ish dark chocolates. VERY thoughtful!!! They scored MAJOR points! (I always share!)

Different situations. Most RATIONAL people don't expect sex on the first date. A gesture like a dozen roses on the first date just screams desperate and thirsty to most people.
