I did a tally of all my friends that are of an age that marriage is an option. 55% are married and 45% are single. These are friends that I have had since childhood, so it is not a case of finding /meeting friends in similar situations.

Several of the married friends are very much unhappy but won't divorce. I still counted them as married though. Maybe marriage is something that is going by the wayside.

Perhaps in your circle. I wouldn't make the leap from your small, localized sample to a general statement about marriage though.

Yeah, I still don't think that the results from your sample group can be used as the basis for the general statement that marriage is going by the wayside.

Hahah...what a silly thing the OP is! So what's the age span, SES, educational span, etc.?

Singlehood is growing. But that doesn't mean that marriage is falling by the wayside. Not in the US, anyway.

You know being single has finally been accepted as being mainstream when...

(a little more...)

.... people stop obsessing about it.

How many people are in the tally? I bet the number of people is not statistically significant enough to draw a meaningful conclusion.
