My friend has many casual hook ups and never uses protection. I guess since I've been married a long time and always used protection in the past I figured that was the responsible thing to do....and I can understand it happens in the heat of the moment but 7 to 10 different guys she has been with in the last few months and nobody uses any? Is that the new norm?
I don't know what the norm is for young single people today.
But I can tell you that it has never been the societal norm for any civilisation. Ever. (outside of paid or exploited sex workers, ceremonial 'temple prostitutes', drug addicts, and the pathologically self destructive).
I honestly rarely use condoms. On the other hand I also don't have a lot of partners and have had sizable gaps between each. On top of doing some questioning of a potential partner and giving their genitals a once over before I stick myself in there (I realize this sounds like I am doing an OBGYN level checkup).
I did catch something from a partner who later revealed to me that she had a tendency to pretty much sleep with every single guy she meets (thankfully it was just a bacteria that was easily curable), but past that I've been completely clean.
Frankly I don't worry about it too much. Herpes is something you can typically see. Many STDs are curable. And something like HIV is rare and also heavily revolved around homosexual men (over 2/3rds of new transmissions are to men having sex with men, while making up less than 5% of the population. Too lazy to pull the CDC source, but doing the math, sleeping with 50 random women is about the same as sleeping with one gay man. A woman mentioning she slept with a gay or bisexual guy is an instant deal breaker). And I think I'm done with one night stands/fwb. It's a calculated risk. Especially since so many condoms and so damn thick that you can't feel a thing (Trojan especially). I got some new ones that are much better and I'm happy to use.
It also pays dividends to master the art of pulling out.
Well yes I'm not the brightest or the best person in the world but I'm not the horrible sod you are making me out to be that only puts my needs first and to hell with the woman in question and nothing about me is nasty or brutish . believe me it takes two to tango and in fairness I KNOW I should be more aware of the above subjects and now I am
So thank you and everyone else for your words on this and it has opened my eyes
Sorry if you think I'm being harsh but there's just no excuse for this kind if reckless attitude in the 21st Century. Tomorrow's kids deserve better than parents who had them by accident.

I've taken it as tough love mate
Your right in everything you have said so honestly there's not a problem and I really do appreciate your posts.
Ps further what setchel just said I would be prepared to wear a condom and if I was asked to by a partner I would. I know I should wear one anyway but I forgot to mention it earlier

Really? So all the people who have herpes saw signs of herpes on their partner but had sex with them anyway?

Not bothering to have a look. Being in a place that's dark (I know I'm not the only one that's had a fun time in the back of the car at night) and can't see. Pubic hair in the way. Having no idea what it looks like. Not even knowing you CAN look for it.
People point to Charlie Sheen...but actually many take false comfort in the fact that they are not out screwing porn stars so they will be ok...that kind of faulty logic can get you killed...
