So I’m an 18 year old HS senior and I have a girlfriend who’s 17 years old and she’s a junior. Next year I’ll be a college freshman and she’ll be a senior and the college is close to her. We are quite happy together but I wonder should I continue this relationship with her next year. Seeing as I’m in college, I don’t want to be seen as the creepy guy lurking around HS. It’s just a year difference but still, what should I do? In my grade right now, there’s an 18 year old girl going out with a 26 year old, which everyone agrees is pretty weird and I don’t want to be seen like that guy.
For one year, it won't matter. If things are good, keep them going, provided that the college is very close to your current high school. If you are going to a college far away, probably best to end things than get embroiled in a long distance relationship.
I am into her, the only issue I worry is the fact that I'll be in college and she'll still be in HS.
OP, I had quite a few friends, male and female, who were in college when I was in HS, with a bigger age gap than you two have. You're making too big a deal out of this. Don't worry. Be happy.
Besides, how would you explain to her that you want to break up because you feel awkward about being in college while she's finishing HS? She would have no way of understanding that. If you two are happy, why second-guess it? Enjoy.
Sure that's creepy, but it doesn't apply to you cause you're only 1 year older. How do you not see the difference?
