So since she is going on a trip during Valentine's we decided to do Valentine's a little early. In total I spent around $60, took her to eat, got her a teddy bear and some books. She ended up spending close to $200! Several video games and some stuff for my car. Now I know it's nice what she did but now she's upset complaining that she spent so much and I didn't.
It shouldn't be about money I know but make it up to her when she gets back from her trip, take her out for a lavish meal and make a right good night of it.
1. She seems to not be responsible with money, if she usually spends like that. But $200.00 worth of stuff seems a bit much, at least for Valentine's day. If she was gonna spread that out and have it count for your birthday and Xmas too, then that's cool. Over $200 on gifts for every Holiday? She's gonna have trouble, unless she's rich. Does she always spend money like this, or is this a rarity? if it's a rare thing now and again, then not bad.
2. As someone stated, it shouldn't be a contest. If she was prepared to spend that much money, that should be on her. And she should do it because she wanted to. Not because she felt it entitled her to receive equal, or more.
Some women have boyfriends that don't even acknowledge the Holiday, and thus get their girlfriends nothing. Or they keep it simple. One man I know said all he gave his wife on that day was a hug. If anyone cares enough about you to give you anything, to be nice, you say "thank you" and be appreciative. Not complain that they didn't give you enough.
So she seems petty, materialistic, and irresponsible.

Don't expect any nice gifts for a while, Guy. Mod cut.
