Should guys use smiley faces in texts? (relation, people, like)

Or clarification. My best friend has learned to use smileys and winks to make sure I know he's joking with comments he knows I could easily take the wrong way if I'm feeling overly sensitive when I read them.

That's what I do myself especially if Ive just met a lady I usually add a just in case.

I've been quite lucky as I meet them first in person ( not online or CD LOL ) in a pub for example, so they will get a good idea of my sense of humour and already know that I mean no harm.

They basically guys should not use smiley faces, sad faces, a wink, a heart, or a awwww

Is it a turn off?

If I'm in a relationship with a girla nd she texts me randomly and says "I was thinking about you, and it put a smile on your face" I would reply with something like "aww that's a great thing to hear"


I mean is "awww" that bad?

So any opinion on guys using those certain things?

There's a lot of overthinking going on here. It's not a big deal.
