Just wondering if this has happened to anyone and how you handled it. "Ex" can refer to anyone you dated for any period of time.

I'm going on a first date this week (OLD...we've never met). We're going to a local brewery that I like that he has never been to. As we were confirming date and time last night, he mentioned that he looked on the website and saw that there is bar trivia the night/time that we are going. Great! I love trivia.

HOWEVER there was a guy I was dating in the fall for just about 3 months...we went to trivia at this brewery a few times, and he mentioned that he and his buddies go frequently.

I casually tried to change the location of the date, saying that it can get pretty crowded and we might not have a place to sit. He offered to change to an earlier meeting time.

Should I have been honest about why it might be awkward to go? That felt like a weird thing to do so I didn't. So now I'm curious what I should do if I see this "ex" there (I don't really consider him an ex, we never labeled our "relationship" officially, though I do know he was dating me exclusively). It's a fairly small brewery so if he's there, I don't think I could pretend I don't see him.

Several times. I say "hi" and carry on. Sometimes if appropriate I make an introduction. No biggie.

lol I run into my ex all the time. The best day was when he stopped in to my house with his new girlfriend, who was my boyfriends ex girlfriend. And my former best friend...

Awkward....

Why would you pretend anything? Just be friendly. I don't get people who can't be around their exes. You've moved on, they've moved on, just live your life.

Happens all the time. I find it easier to just remains friends. Actually I have been talking to my ex husband all morning through text about the dating situation. He has the same struggles that I have.

I wouldn't even mind an ex. Why let them ruin a good time? Just go to trivia night and if you see him, say hi and leave it at that.

I was about to say "Dayum, how small is this town??" but the same sort of thing happens where I am, too. Some 7.8 million people, but everyone knows everyone... and no matter where you go, you will see a familiar face.

Right. Our county is not so small any more, but we have lived here all our lives and grew up here so our families have roots and we are all connected. Add the fact that we never went away to college, it is the same group of us that have been through life together.

I tried bring in a new guy from another area and that backfired on me.

Depends on the ex. I don't want any witnesses.
