This is interesting, but if they're not talking about doing it, how do you know they're doing it? Are you watching? Naughty Eve! Europeans really ARE less repressed.
Someone mentioned the possibility of studies on the subject. If there are any then that would settle the question.
What would you expect from a country that was started by / early on was a haven for?:
- Puritans
- Baptists
- Shakers
- Quakers
- (fill in the blank with nearly unknown religious sect of your choosing)
And if that were not enough, we've invented a number of others ranging from LDS to Scientologists to The Branch Davidians and many others.
What about a country that set up a Utopian community that practiced Tantric sex? (The Oneida commune in the 1800's)? Or whose founders belonged to the Rosicrucians? (The rose + cross are borrowed from Tantric symbolism, the equivalent of the lotus (vagina) and the "thunderbolt" ritual object (phallic symbol)) Contrary to what we were taught in school, the Puritans sometimes got run out of the communities they lived in, and had to start their own. They would get ostracized from the mainstream. (I discovered this when researching one of my family lineages.) I think there's a lot more to American religious history than the Puritan cliche.
People talk about sex all day long. Balls, balls, balls, I have never been in any other country that talks about balls and other body parts so much.
However, I find other countries aren't talking as much about it, but they do "it" more often.
Europeans are very sexual without bragging about it. They are less worried about rejection, hit on more women and are more open sexually. But they don't talk about it.
Americans talk more but do less. Just my opinion.
lol! What an interesting perspective. C-D is the only place where I've encountered talk about balls. Or genitalia in general. This isn't a topic that's acceptable in polite company, in my experience, but that doesn't mean that people aren't having sex.
I think the problem in the US isn't about sexual repression, it's about crippling shyness and fear of rejection. Even so, that's only relevant to a minority of the population, I would think.
Some people have been telling the US is a very sexually repressed country. I just would love to understand it more, in terms of dating how it works and why.

I think those people don't know what they're talking about. The hookup culture has been around a long time, long before the term "hookup" was coined. Maybe you've missed all the threads here about people who had sex on the first date, and have been happily married since then, or who have or had sex on the first date as a regular thing in their single years. Then there's Timberline's experience, where he says it's common for people to have sex first, then afterwards decide if they want to date. That's the only area in which the US (and Canada, I doubt our northern neighbors are all that different from us) lags behind Europe. The sex first thing hasn't become mainstream in the US yet.
OP, what do you mean by "express their sexuality"? We still don't know what it is you're asking. Do you mean talking about sex, or do you mean being open to sex and to jumping into sexual relationships?

And they will put nudity on billboards and Americans freak about that stuff. But does that mean one side is having less sex? Dunno, but I am sure there are studies out there that address that.
That's the first thing I noticed when I lived in Europe. I also noticed some European television (mainly French) have no filters when it comes to nudity/sex.
