Amazon should deliver on Friday. Three of my coworkers were supposed to go out of state for training. That was cancelled. The afternoon nap was okay. If this is retirement, I am ready for it.

I'm not sure what's worse.....the virus or the hysteria surrounding it. My friends around here are telling me that people are cleaning out the stores so fast, there is a shortage in EVERYTHING, not just tissue, soap, or wipes. It's getting ridiculous at this point. People are acting like it's the apocalypse out here.

Now we are talking taking the next four weeks to hide out. Hopefully it sorts itself out. The shortages should be short termed. My folks snuck out of the retirement facility yesterday for church and today to take their neighbor to the doctor. Tomorrow I want to eat corned beef and cabbage. So I have visions of going to out to eat. Will see if that happens.

All the restaurants here are now ordered to be pick up/drive thru only, LA area. Service industry workers are going to be hit critically without their tip income. It's an introvert's dream come to life!

I was planning to go to a conference in Atlanta and that got cancelled. I've resigned myself to being out $300 on the flight, but I'm taking solace in having saved what I'd have paid on the rental car and airport parking and food etc while there. Tried to see what could be done about the flight, and I'm dealing with Orbitz, Frontier, and United...all 3 say, "We are so committed to working with our customers during this difficult time, and have implemented new policies for cancelled and changed plans etc." But Orbitz says, "Go ask your airline, tho." And the airlines say, "If you booked with a third party provider, ask them." Passing the buck back and forth like. Oh, and "You can't do anything online, but feel free to call our 800 number!" Right. Like I could get through to accomplish anything over the phone. Bah. I gave it a bit of a go, but I feel like I'll just chalk it up to charity and leave it at that. These airlines are in big trouble right now anyways.

I'm lucky that my job is being really cool about all this, we can work from home but the office is open if we don't need/want to. I'd rather not; I plan to be in unless I actually get sick. So many of my coworkers are staying home, it's empty in here. And we have one heck of a very serious janitor (who informed me that he owns a hazmat suit and will use it if he has to!) so this place is probably cleaner and safer than my home, even.

I'm really worried about my friends who are touring musicians and who work the Renaissance Festival circuit though. Events are cancelled everywhere. I have no idea how they're gonna get by.

All company trips to trade shows and customer meetings have been cancelled and we just got the OK to work from home if we want. I just have a "staff" of two, and myself, but we may start working from home this week.

Went out to a few stores yesterday to get needed stuff. Insane how empty the shelves are. The casinos are closing, malls are closing, and so are the gyms. Food places are closing their dining areas and doing drive thru or delivery only.

Stay healthy and for those who aren't feeling well, hope you feel better soon!

Yeah, the restaurants and bars in our city have all been closed except drive through, delivery, and pickup services I think.

And I went to the grocery store yesterday to get a couple of things, I was able to get what I went for but they were out of a number of products. Funny how you find out which kind of thing nobody likes, in a situation like this. The shelves were bare of Kraft mac & cheese except for the three cheese mini-shells. And people weren't desperate enough yet to pay $5 a box for the delicious (but overpriced) Cracker Barrel kind.

Toilet paper, of course, was gone. They still had some bottled water, but only the more expensive brand. They were out of bread, potatoes, meat (like the store-cut beef, chicken, pork etc) eggs, frozen veggies, and other odd random-seeming things.

I was laughing because there was a thread somewhere (it got closed) on "why men rule the world" or some such baloney and the OP's premise was that women were stupidly emotional because he went to the store early one morning to pick up a jug of milk, and there were lots of women stockpiling or panic-shopping or whatever at the crack of dawn. What was funny to me (I thought of the thread while I was at the store last night) is that there were more than the usual number of shoppers in the store, but everyone was acting calm and normal, EXCEPT for one older guy who was clearly ANGRY at the whole situation, and was grabbing items and throwing them violently into his hand cart and cursing to himself audibly and glaring at people.

Why is it, when women are accused of being "emotional" no one thinks about men and anger, I often wonder...?

*sigh* Whatever.

Sometimes, I order some wine from a winery. They ship to me via UPS. UPS has me sign for it.

Sometimes, during times of stress, we like to have a warm fire in the fireplace or wood burner, watch the flames, drink some wine, get real close...
