So my boyfriend and I have been together for well over a year now and things are great. We live over an hour away from each other, two hours in traffic, so we only get together on weekends and maybe a week day or two. But we talk on the phone and text every night. Texts are hard to measure, but phone calls, I'd say we talk well over an hour every night.

The problem is the last few nights we've had very little to talk about. Right now both of our lives are just work and routine. The news is the same old stuff too (elections and weather disasters). In the course of the year+ I think we've talked about just about everything in our lives and pasts of importance. My boyfriend often rehashes the same stories to me and I am sure I do the same. I can't begin to tell you how much of our recent conversations have been about my dog and his cat! Lol It doesn't help that we are both swamped at work. Nothing says boring like talking about your work day (unless you have an interesting job like Mike Rowe).

We've both come to the conclusion that there are just times when life is just routine and kind of dull. But I don't want to just accept that. I want to spice up phone calls with interesting topics. I am looking for ideas from the silliest conversation topics to the deeply philosophical. Please, share ideas! I want to use them and make the phone calls more fun again.

I think you are talking too much! I live an hour from my BF, and we usually see each other only on weekends. We don't talk more than 20 min, total, the entire day. Maybe if there is something specific going on, we might talk more than that. But during the week, we are BUSY. We talk on the weekends. I'd go nuts trying to come up with that much conversation every night!

An hour every day? Jeesh.

People who live together don't sit down and talk with each other an hour every evening and they probably have more mutual things to talk about (ie, the house, bills)

An hour a day no matter what sounds like more of a rut than just calling each other when there's something great to say or you want to shmooze a bit.
