Reading this makes me ever so happy I only, ever, dated the old fashioned way having met women in real life, not in cyberspace.
But haven't you also said that you're of the age that cyberspace didn't exist when you were dating? You can smugly pat yourself on the back as much as you want, but if you were dating now, technology would be a part of your dating arsenal.

Cyberspace puts you in touch with other people who are dating, you still meet and date in "real life".

Yes to the former about the Internet although it became somewhat available in 1995 while I was single again. As for being smug, not, nor would I use the internet were I to become single again. To me there are far better ways to meet and get to know people. Call me old-fashioned if you will, I like it that way.

She had been fading out on me. I know perfectly well if I went over to her, that would scream stalker and creepy.
You don't know that at all. At best you may have made a connection. At worst it may have been a little awkward. Quite frankly, you need to experience awkward situations to know how to handle them, get through them, and realize you're no worse for the wear after. You're being your own worst enemy again, hiding from situations and making assumptions.

Seriously, if I had done a fading and the woman I faded out on came up to me in public, I'd freak out. I would never want to put a woman in that position and I'd be scared of the fallout if I legitimately scared her.

I'm with you. I'm the type of person that if a woman would walk one step away from me, I'd walk 10 steps away from her. I've been stalked before, and I don't want a woman to feel that I am doing that to her.

You'd freak out if she came up to you and said hello in the grocery store?
