Not only is the ban on current patients in effect in some branches, there is also an explicit guideline on the amount of time that must elapse after a professional relationship ceases.

Just my opinion, but just no! Too many troublesome and pesky issues with this scenario, but specifically the "provider" aspect.

On the other hand, if you happen to run into, meet in some fashion other than you as the patient, are set up on a blind date with a healthcare worker (MD, Nurse, Radiologist) or whatever the title may be, then by all means have at it.

I clicked "yes" but with the proviso that it's the patient that initiates.

I've met a few over the years in A + E but that I assume was because I was in and out. ( no pun intended! Lol )

I'm not sure if it's illegal here but suspect the morale side of it would stop them dating their patients.

RE above yes I always initiated it

I fell in love with my male nurse, and had a slight crush on another.
One was very active in telling me how he felt while I was there and didn't seem to care about potentially losing his job,the other kept it very professional.

Well the "correct answer" if you have ever worked for a hospital as I have is "no! never!", but I disagree with that. People should date who they want. Would I date a patient if I worked at a hospital? Nope because I know the consequences that are in place if the hospital ever caught it happening.

No unless you are rich. If you get fired you can still survive without your job.

Not only that, but even AFTER the amount of time (which can be up to five years) elapses, the burden of proof is on the professional to prove that it was not an exploitative relationship if it ever goes to court, no matter how much time has elapsed. In other words, it's best to just completely avoid dating current OR former patients/clients, unless you can afford to lose your career.

Well, like most things, the answer is "Depends."

I mean, if he's a Ob/Gyn, can he date one of his patients? Ummmm, no.

On the other hand, if the guy is an orthopedist, treats a patient for her fractured ankle, then encounters her a couple of years later at a bar, long after her course of treatment has ended, then why the heck not?

My dentist is a buxom babe and very good at what she does to put me at ease. I've had four root canals, several teeth pulled and bridges installed and countless crowns. Who needs to date?
