I don't buy it either. Sure being single is better than a destructive relationship, but a fulfilling relationshop beats being single, especially in the long run.
It's just the way we are biologically wired.
Except some people don't want to be in a relationship under any circumstance. Some singles are truly happy being single long term. For example, women are biologically wired to have kids, but not all of them end up doing so, and are perfectly happy.
Humans have evolved being just simple biology.
Also, I realized this has gone 38 pages, and the OP hasn't posted at all since she started this thread, lol.

A relationship can be brilliant assuming the compatibility, chemistry etc is there but many people that seek a relationship struggle to find that.
It's a shame people associate single with being lonely, sad and " they must be looking " and so on and for me personally it's the complete opposite and I never struggle for company or unhappy so rather enjoy it

I feel now, looking back, that if I'd remained single, for a longer period of time, I believe my choices would have been a lot more knowledgeable....
unfortunately our society dictates that you "have" to be a couple to be successful. Sad....

I wouldn't care what society said because it's my life and I decide how to live it. Some people are in crappy relationships and want you to be as unhappy as they are.
I agree that long term happiness is unlikely if remaining single. I know for me after 8 years of being single, I'm far from feeling like I have an ideal life, the life I wanted for myself.
