Is it possible he simply ran himself out of time to pick up gifts, and wound up grabbing what he could in a pinch? Is it a given that he brings gifts back from such trips? My spouse travels often with the Navy, and at some point, you run out of interesting, thoughtful trinkets and stuff gets pretty same-old, same-old. My husband knows that I don't expect trip souvenirs as a matter of course. The pressure to find the perfect, most thoughtful gift can get to be a bit much. Don't know what your dynamic is. But sometimes, you just don't come across anything that really "screams" the other person, and you're left with the proverbial sack of m&ms.
I don't know. I'm married to a very thoughtful guy who gifts really well (which can be a pressure on me, actually, to reciprocate well, even though he doesn't intentionally put it on me). But sometimes, you just don't have time to find the perfect thing, or the perfect thing just isn't there. I don't know...do you always expect an ultrameaningful gift?
He explained what he was thinking, and it made perfect sense from a man's persepctive.
