work? It would be tough for me. I have very strong views of my affiliation. I always wondered about Arnold and Maria made it work so long. There is another political couple James Carville and Mary Matalin they seem to make it work somehow. Of course they both make good money at it.
Your stories and does it make things tougher.
I was married young and didn't know a drop about politics except what my parents were, so was I. My ex turns out was the opposite and the marriage didn't last but about 8 yrs. I don't think due to politics but a lot of other stuff.
Ha, Carville and Matalin were the first people who came to mind.
I think many relationships could survive this and be very strong. I think it would be difficult for me to not be aligned with my mate in this way...something so fundamental.
I've seen too much of the other side and what they are about to ever associate with them on that level again. Why? Because I was once one of them. I believed in their self-righteousness twaddle, their conspiracies, their fear of the "other." Eventually, I learned that I couldn't continue to uphold a duty to the truth and also remain a member of that political affiliation; oh, and there's also the part where to continue with those political beliefs would mean I'd need to condemn various friends and family members for being "the other."
So, no. I could never have any real relationship with somebody like that since I simply could not respect them; quite frankly, in this day and age, they should know better. It's hard enough still dealing with the residual friends I have from the times when I was like them... their petty, willful ignorance and love of conspiracy theories is enough to be sickening... I can't imagine dealing with that drivel at home every day.
Frankly, whenever someone tells me that he are a straight-ticket voter for either the Republicans or the Democrats, I start to look for their lobotomy scars. Because if either party gets its mitts fully on the levers of power, we'd have a bankrupt autocracy on our hands.

True - you're better off voting for the person vs. the party anyway. But as somebody who can legitimately say he's voted split tickets and for 3 different political parties for president in the relatively recent past as far as elections go, I agree.
Not if we're polar opposite. Some points of difference, but same basic values? Sure. No problem.
