I would prefer my guy to make his specialty. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as he made it. I like all kinds of things, so it wouldn't matter.

It might be a good idea to mention what you plan to cook to give her the opportunity to decline if it's something she cannot tolerate for whatever reason. At the very least, she would know whether to bring a complementary white or red wine if she knew what was being served. That's how I would handle it if I was making him dinner.

That's all you need

For real, if a guy cooked for me, it would be a great treat. I wouldn't REALLY view it as any kind of audition or anything. I was just noting some subtle things that can be observed in that kind of situation.

Cooking can be a great shared experience, and if someone went to that trouble for me, I would be grateful.

It's a nice gesture.

A guy who is a good cook is rare (at least it is to me)...and one who I would consider 'keeping' if his culinary skills are top notch or at least as good as mine!
I'd hope the guy would tell you what he was planning to make. I know I would for food allergy considerations if nothing else. But I also would want to make something she'd be interested in trying/wanting to eat. Otherwise what's the point? lol

Calamari. I used to be firmly in the "no way in hell am I putting tentacles in my mouth again" (childhood incident, long story lol) but I decided to man-up recently and gave it a try. It was good, but I won't ever eat it again. lol I just had to exorcise that particular demon.

Random: I really want to try a beef wellington at some point, but I know that's super hard to get right.

That's a very good point! I don't know anything about wine. At all. And I certainly don't keep any on hand. I often describe it as "a bitter fruit drink".

Um, calamari....that would be a HUGE "NO" in my book!!! Idc how "good" it tasted, that slimy chit ain't entering my mouth lol (You can DM me your childhood incident lol I'm interested in hearing how mentally damaging it was for you hahaa)

Never had Beef Wellington before. Seen pics of it though...and it looks gross because it's RAW in the middle!! YUK!!!! I might try it if it was well done.

LOL It's not raw inside unless it's undercooked. Undercooked meat is awful in general, though, and unhealthy. It's like roast beef, brown on the outside with a moist, pink center. (Holy...that sounds really bad. lol But I have no idea how else to say it. That's what it is! LOL) Do you eat roast beef?
