I am interested in him. The thing is the "emotional load" talk was him telling me he doesn't like me. But his behavior and actions prove otherwise.

OK, this guy might be a little awkward with his relationships, maybe he doesn't flow at expressing himself as well as other people but if you are interested in him then try to get to know him a little better
first before getting too deep in the relationship. This will give you the opportunity to know if you really like his personality or not. He might be different, for the better, if he can relax with you, or he could start showing colors you are not too interested in but at least you would know what direction to go.
