How does "happy wife, happy life" mean the wife is bossy? An unhappy wife who doesn't boss anybody around is probably going to make the entire household feel sad if she is the center of the household (not on purpose, but because they count on her). I always thought that was what this saying meant - that Mom traditionally was "the center" of the household and therefore, everyone was going to be affected by how she felt. That's not necessarily true today but in generations past it may have been way more applicable.
p.s. What the heck is up with swearing at women on this post????

I thought it was a newer saying, and in my experience it is used the the context of "you better do what your wife says or you'll be miserable". I've always thought it was a misleading phrase because I don't know many couples with unhappy husbands that ultimately end well any more than couples with unhappy wives do. Men who say it tend to be tools in my experience.
"Happy spouse happy house" might be a better saying, especially if it's a two way street, but it's still kinda lame.
My wife has a very strong, even dominant personality. And still she’s not “bossy.” My guess is OP you’re hanging around the wrong kind of women if you’re raising the question you do. Even women who like to be in charge can do so without being bossy. Nobody likes a nag, and I don’t know too many men or women who think being one is okay.

She swore at me first and ticked me off so I swore back at her.
I interpret “happy wife, happy life” to mean that the women just demands and gets whatever she wants or she is really mean to the guy

I don't think it's new. I feel like my dad used to say it, and that was in the 70s.
I didn't see it as the wife bullying or throwing her weight around, though. I thought it was considered a (then) "new" way of looking at the "happy housewife" of the 50s role...that underneath it all she probably wasn't loving the grunt routine as much as everybody said she should be doing. So then women's feelings on the matter were finally being recognized and it was sort of a revelation.
We may be seeing what we want to see here....who knows.

I know you do. It feels like you're predisposed to, because you are (or seem) suspicious of women in general and very prepared to see them as something pretty negative.

That’s it exactly. Women are just evil and out to make the lives of men miserable. It’s okay for women to be misandrist and bossy because that is just how we women are. Oh, well. What’s a girl to do. It’s a dirty job but someone has to do it.
And what makes you think women want to find a man to stay with her. Don’t you know that all we want to do is use you and then dump you and take all your money? We have all the courts rigged so we can get away with this and live lives of luxury on your dime. You’re doomed. Doooomed!

Just my take.
Very accurate take. There are a lot of evil women out there. Not all, but a lot.
