Mmmm doesn’t realize this weekend was mem weekend? This is a red flag to me.. everyone knows it’s Memorial Day and most people get a paid day off. I would highly doubt this answer.

However, her family having a cookout for ONE day of the long weekend doesn't mean the entire weekend is shot. If it is then I'd say the family thing is just an excuse. Unless it's a full-fledged family reunion with everyone from both coasts flying in, or something.

There was no plans made for this weekend because of both of our families cooking out today and it being a thunderstorm tomorrow. That's why I was calling to talk about next weekend.
You said you'd talk on the phone for along time. Regardless of what time you think she ought to have had, maybe you guessed wrong and she wasn't prepared for one of those.
