Earlier I was talking to a friend who asked me to go out with him and I said I was busy with the wife and after the conversation apparently my wife overheard and said "The wife? Really?" she didn't seem really mad or upset and more kind of joking, but still, it was interesting she brought it up. Would it bother you?
nope! Beats being called "the ole lady", "the other Woman" , "the other Half" . Acknowledging the marital stat is okay. When out and about I often said " This is my Husband , (insert name),"
I don't know...my husband doesn't use that phrase...it sounds kind of Ralph Kramden-y. I don't think it would bother me all that much; I'd assume he was joking around. When he's being serious he calls me The Goddess.
My grandfather thought it was hilarious to refer to my grandmother as "my first wife." Of course he was joking, but compared to that "the wife" is no big deal at all.

In such a situation, I'd have to ask my Social Director.
