So I saw him for the first time after 35 year's, his dad made them move, my senior year. You could tell the chemistry is still there. We have spoken on the phone over the years, which was always wonderful. He drove over 4 hours to see me, we enjoyed a great lunch. Then he sent me a link to the song Mercy by Brett Young. I don't get it lol... Maybe it's dude speak 🙄

Brett Young on 'Mercy': 'I Think Everybody Knows That Feeling'

Quote:
“Every time we’ve played it out it’s all people want to talk about after the show and I think the reason is it’s about going through a breakup and having that person kind of just continue to poke their head in their life and not let you move on,” he says.

A former flame inspired the song. In fact, it's the same person who inspired many songs on his debut album, including "You Ain't Here to Kiss Me." She kept coming back around in subtle ways, and it was torture on his heart ...

Well, I'm not a dude, and it seems pretty clear to me.

He's saying don't play around with his feelings.

Looks pretty clear to me...he's interested in you, pretty seriously too I would think. If you feel the same way, then tell him, and if you don't, then tell him that too, and do it quickly and kindly and don't play games just to string him along. In other words, have mercy on his heart.

You're both grownups now. Why not just ask him what he wants this time around? Not in a demanding or confrontational way, but just in a reasonable way?

Something like this happened to me too. He came on very strong, and all the old feelings from so long ago came back in a rush. He told me that although he was married, he and his wife were separated and heading for a divorce.

A few months later I found out he was lying. He was still very married, and oh yeah, he had pulled the same stunt with some other women as well. Narcissist SOB.

As another poster has suggested, talk to the guy and find out what he has in mind. Make sure both you and he are available before you get involved with him, though.
