People always make such ridiculous absolutist claims. Sometimes it is the case, sometimes it is not. There is hardly ever just one true statement applicable to all.
My wife is unquestionably my best friend. That said, I believe that it is both healthy and important to have friendships outside of marriage. I have a group of friends I see socially apart from my wife a couple of times a year, she has the same. We have lots of mutual friends and spend almost all our free time together. This works for us.
